Simply stated, if you look into the mirror and see any of all of the conditions listed below, and you don’t like what you see, you may be a good candidate for Dr. Kaplan’s Lower Eyelid Suspension Surgery.
- You have excessive sagging of lower eyelid skin.
- You have eyelids that droop because of prior eyelid surgery, aging or paralysis.
- You have puffy pouches of fat in the lower lids that create a tired or aged appearance.
- You are in otherwise good health and have realistic expectations.
Lower Eyelid Suspension is a surgical procedure that addresses the problem of lower eyelids that droop or sag due to sun damage, prior eyelid surgery, aging, or paralysis. These conditions create a tired or aged appearance as well as “dry eye” problems. This surgery will tighten and elevate the lower lids. Lower Eyelid Suspension is sometimes done at the same time as lower blepharoplasty.
After you are made totally comfortable, Dr. Kaplan will make incisions below the lid margin and near the outer corner of the lower eyelid. He will work through these small incisions to relocate fat and tighten and suspend the lower lids.
Dr. Kaplan recommends this surgery to his patients who are concerned about these problems and who want to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance.
What Dr. Kaplan's Lower Eyelid Suspension Surgery Accomplishes:
- A more refreshed, rested, and youthful appearance of the eyes
- Tightening and possible elevation of the lower lids
- Reduction of “dry eye” symptoms from excessive conjunctival and corneal exposure (such as weeping, inflammation, irritation, redness, and blurring of vision)
- Improved appearance of the lower eyelids and eyes
Dr. Kaplan will perform your eyelid surgery as an out patient procedure in our state-of-the-art AAAHC certified operating room. All of the required monitoring, anesthetic delivery and emergency equipment are present. Sedation and local anesthesia or MAC (monitored anesthesia care) will be administered to ensure your complete comfort during this surgery. If you are having MAC anesthesia, a board certified anesthesiologist is present throughout the operation as he administers and monitors the anesthetic. Anesthesia will be discussed during your pre-operative appointment.
After your Lower Eyelid Suspension Surgery:
- Discomfort is usually mild and is easily managed with oral medication
- Bruising and sensitivity to light is normal for about 7 – 10 days
- Swelling is also normal and progressively disappears over a few weeks
- Eye makeup can be worn again shortly after the sutures are gone
- Contact lenses can be worn again when comfortable, usually within 7-14 days
- Sleep on your back with your head elevated per our instructions
- Be sure to keep your follow-up appointments
